Milieu is happy to announce that the European Parliament has published the Briefing we prepared on the 19th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP19) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The EU has played a key role in the global fight against trafficking, and the European Parliament has been a prominent voice calling for further action, both worldwide and within EU Member States. COP19 adopted a series of decisions to regulate trade in wild species, including sharks, other marine animals and tropical trees harvested for timber. Discussions also covered illegal trade in elephants and rhinos, captive breeding facilities for tigers, and ways to reduce demand for illegal wildlife products through behaviour change communications.
