New Project to Strengthen Resilience and Support Economic Development in EU Coastal Communities

Milieu is pleased to be working with Ecorys, Stratégies Mer et Littoral (SML), and BlueFarm on a new project supporting the European Commission in better understanding – and responding to – the challenges faced by coastal communities across the European Union.

With more than 40% of the world’s population living near coastlines, ensuring the sustainability and resilience of these areas is not only a European and regional priority, but also a global necessity.

The project will explore the diverse realities and pressures coastal communities face – from climate change and environmental risks to economic transitions and the need for greater social inclusion.

Milieu’s role will focus on assessing how EU funding instruments and support tools have already contributed to the development of coastal communities, and how they can be used more effectively to promote sustainable and inclusive growth.

This work will provide evidence to help shape future EU strategies and investment approaches aimed at strengthening the climate and socio-economic resilience of coastal regions across Europe.
