New Study on the SEA Directive

We are proud to announce the completion of a new study led by Milieu with support from @Eunomia Research & Consulting: ‘Study supporting the preparation of the report on the application and effectiveness of the SEA Directive (Directive 2001/42/EC)’

With almost 9000 Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) carried out annually across the EU, SEAs are a key tool for integrating environmental considerations into plans and programmes of different sectors and levels of government, such as land use, energy, and waste management plans.

Drawing on an extensive literature review, case law and input from over 60 stakeholders, the study assessed how the application of the SEA Directive has changed over time, its current benefits and challenges, and its role in relation to other EU environmental policies and non-environmental policies.
