Sophie Patras
Analyst
Sophie Patras is a French national who joined Milieu in September 2023. She holds a Master’s degree in EU law from the Faculty of Law and Politics of Aix-en-Provence, and graduated from the College of Europe’s Bruges campus in 2019. Sophie is specialised in digital and IT law as well as in judicial cooperation, internal market law, justice and fundamental rights. Sophie has developed her career in both legal and policy matters. After working for two law firms in Marseille and Brussels, and at the General Court of the European Union on EU staff matters and intellectual property, she joined the Belgian and Luxembourg Bar Associations as a trainee EU liaison officer. Before joining Milieu, Sophie was the legal advisor of a digital services’ company specialised in IT outsourcing services and health data hosting. She now focuses on artificial intelligence, digital services and privacy policies at Milieu. Sophie speaks French, English and Italian fluently and also has a basic knowledge of Spanish, Dutch and Japanese.
She contributes to and coordinates complex analytical studies, evaluations and impact assessments for EU institutions, including the European Commission, the European Environment Agency and CINEA. Her areas of specialisation include environmental law and policy analysis, Better Regulation methods, stakeholder consultation and the assessment of how environmental considerations are integrated into planning and public investment. She has extensive experience managing multidisciplinary research activities, coordinating international teams of experts and delivering evidence-based outputs that support the implementation and evaluation of EU legislation.
Before joining Milieu, Paola worked on EU environmental and cohesion policy at the Institute for European Environmental Policy and completed a traineeship at the European Investment Bank, focusing on environmental assessment and the integration of sustainability into public investment programmes.
She holds an MSc in Administration and Public Policies and a BA in International Relations and European Institutions from the University of Milan. Paola speaks Italian (native), English (fluent) and French (working proficiency).
