Júlia Zomignani Barboza

Júlia joined Milieu in September 2024 and has over ten years of professional experience engaging in legal research and analysis at both national and international level. She holds a PhD in law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where she specialised in refugee law and human rights, and an LLM in international humanitarian law and human rights from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. At Milieu, Júlia contributes to the management and implementation of a variety of legal and policy projects in her areas of expertise, which include migration and asylum, human rights, civic space and data protection. Earlier in her carrier, Júlia engaged in legal research and analysis covering a variety of human rights’ topics in both academia and the not-for-profit sector as well as provided legal assistance to asylum seekers during their migration procedures. Outputs of Júlia’s work include numerous academic publications, thematic reports and practical handbooks and manuals. Portuguese is her mother tongue. She is fluent in English and French and has an advanced knowledge of Spanish and Italian. She is currently learning Dutch.
