Mariya Gancheva

Mariya Gancheva is an experienced project manager and policy expert working on EU climate, energy and environmental policy and EU funds. Working with Milieu since 2015, Mariya has extensive experience advising EU institutions, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions, the European Environmental Agency and the European Economic and Social Committee, on complex regulatory and policy frameworks. Her responsibilities include strategic project management, methodological design, quality assurance, and the delivery of high-quality analytical outputs that inform policy design and implementation. Mariya has experience coordinating framework contracts as well as specific projects, leading multidisciplinary teams, multi-country experts, coordinating stakeholder engagement, and translating complex technical findings into clear, actionable advice for policymakers. Her expertise lies in economic analysis, ex-post and ex-ante assessment, and the development of evidence-based conclusions and practical recommendations along the policy cycle. In addition, Mariya has experience with the use of the Commission’s Better Regulation Guidelines and Toolbox for policy evaluations and impact assessments, including the assessment of policy costs. She also has experience with different data collection methods, including surveys, public consultations, stakeholder interviews and stakeholder events. Mariya holds an MSc in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics and has previously completed studies in international economics. A Bulgarian native speaker, Mariya is also proficient in English and French.
